Pet Urine Spot Cleaning Tips

Left Unattended Urine Can Damage Carpet

Spot Cleaning Tip

Always clean up new messes immediately with paper towels. Pick up any semi-solids with a spoon or spatula. Blot the spot. Do not use a steam cleaner, because the heat will set the stain and the smell. Extracting the urine with a wet-vacuum and rinsing will reduce the odor. Try a solution of one part white vinegar and one part water. Or purchase a Carpet & Rug Institute Seal of Approval Carpet Cleaning product.

Do not scrub. Scrubbing can damage the carpet. Apply a small amount of cleaner to a white cloth and work gently. Blot the spot. Repeat if necessary.

Which Cleaners Work Best for Urine?
Enzymes are the best cleaning agent for urine, vomit or feces. An enzyme is the only cleaning agent that actually eats up bad bacteria. For the best results use an enzyme spotter after you have rinsed the carpet, especially if the spot is not a fresh one. Check pet supply stores for scent-killing products and look for the Carpet & Rug Institute Seal of Approval.

Products to Avoid: Do not use any over the counter products with high pH such as ammonia, Resolve or Oxyclean. Our experience is that these products may set the stain. These products will also leave the carpet with a residue in a high pH state. The carpet will then attract dirt like a magnet. Call Ayoub Carpet Service if you do not know what to use.

Certified carpet cleaning firms know how to permanently remove pet stains and odor. Call Ayoub Carpet Service for professional help.

Disclaimer: Use these techniques at your own risk. Always read the directions on any spotter before using. Pre-test each spooter in an inconspicuous area before using. If the stain or odor persists, call Ayoub Carpet Service.
