Historic Falls Church, Virginia has a relatively stable population, growing from 10,400 in 2000 to approximately 11,000 by 2007, with a median household income of just under $75,000. Falls Church is named for the Episcopal church located at Lee Highway and Washington Street. The Falls Church was established in 1734 along the main north south road leading to Great Falls. The town, like Alexandria, is an independent town in Virginia, not belonging to a county. It is served by two metro stations, East Falls Church and West Falls Church/UVA/VT, which are part of the Orange line. Much of the area surrounding the town but located in Fairfax County also carries a Falls Church, Virginia postal address.
